Former Chico Mayor and Assembly Candidate Andrew Coolidge Endorses Jamie Johansson for Assembly

Johansson advances to the general election with Coolidge's full support

CHICO, Calif.  - Former Chico Mayor and District 3 Assembly candidate Andrew Coolidge, who earned 25 percent of the votes in the primary election and did not advance, endorsed Jamie Johansson for the Assembly seat, adding to the growing coalition of independent-minded voters who believe they should determine the district's future.

Coolidge’s endorsement comes on the heels of the Secretary of State certifying the election results on July 10th. Johansson and Coolidge’s combined votes accounted for nearly 55% of the total votes in the district and 62% of the votes in Butte County, the largest county in the district.

“Over the past year and a half, I traveled across the North State listening to families, farmers, business owners, doctors, educators, and community leaders,” Coolidge said. “What I heard repeatedly is that people want practical solutions, strong representation, and someone who understands the unique challenges facing rural California. I believe Jamie Johansson is the right person to carry that fight forward.” said Coolidge. He highlighted Johansson’s deep roots in agriculture, his experience as a small business owner, and his years of leadership representing North State farmers and communities.

Johansson, the grassroots candidate, said the November election will ultimately be decided by the people who live, work and raise their families in District 3. 

“Andrew ran a campaign centered on service, experience, and improving the quality of life for North State residents,” Johansson said. “I’m grateful for his support and look forward to working with him and the many community leaders across the district who share our commitment to moving this region forward.”

Assembly District 3 stretches across six Northern California counties and includes thousands of farming families, small businesses, and rural communities that have long fought for a stronger voice on issues including affordability, wildfire prevention, water reliability, public safety, and protecting agriculture.

Jamie Johansson Poised to Advance in November Runoff for California’s Assembly District 3 Race, Johansson Pledges a Clean Campaign into the General Election

CHICO, Calif. — (June 12, 2026) — Jamie Johansson is poised to advance to the November runoff for California’s Assembly District 3 seat. Johansson thanked his grassroots supporters, volunteers, and voters throughout the district for helping propel the campaign into the next phase of the race. “The results show that voters want experienced leadership, practical solutions, and someone who understands the challenges facing our farms, businesses, water operators, and local communities,” said Johansson. Johansson, a farmer from Butte County, ran his campaign focused on policy, issues and experience. Johansson pledges a voluntary "clean campaign pledge," under which the advancing candidates agree to focus their campaigns on policy differences, experience, qualifications, and vision for the district rather than personal attacks. Such pledges have been used in elections across the country to encourage civil discourse and maintain voter confidence in the electoral process. This is especially relevant in a two-way Republican race. “Over the next five months, we'll continue earning support one voter at a time and making the case for my representation of the people of Assembly District 3,” Johansson said. A longtime advocate for agriculture and rural issues, Johansson has spent more than two decades working on legislative strategy, agriculture and water policy, and issues affecting farmers, ranchers, and rural residents throughout California.
